I sat transfixed as he shared radical ideas about how true prosperity is created - ideas that had nothing to do with working hard or finding the right investment vehicle. He talked about how our dominant thoughts, whether of lack and limitation or affluence and abundance, would manifest in our lives.
He shared that the quickest way to become wealthy and successful was to help others become wealthy and successful, not only by sharing knowledge and mentoring but by silently sending people good wishes from your heart to theirs. And, he said, the way to keep money away was by being jealous or resentful of other people's good fortune. If someone had something you wanted, he said, be happy for his or her success and then declare, "And that's for me!!"
He also said that whenever we spend money whether by cheque or cash (credit cards were a rarity back then!) we shouldn't think, "I spent $20 and now I have $20 less," but rather, "Every dollar I spend comes back to me multiplied." (Which, as an aside, makes it a lot more fun to pay the bills.)
He even told us to take the money out of our wallets and talk to it. He said to tell it how much we loved and appreciated it. So everyone took out their wallets and started talking to their money. "Money," they said, "You are so dear to me. I am so thrilled to have you and I love you so much that I want you to have babies..." Can you imagine? Two hundred people talking out loud and expressing love and gratitude to their money!
As strange as it seems, I could feel the energy in the room shift and the people begin to open up. It was a tangible experience. And through that exercise and others, by the end of the night, I felt a major shift in myself. And when I left that lecture I knew, without a doubt, that my life's work was to study this knowledge and share these principles with the world. I knew that ideas come to you because they want to be manifested through you. (If they wanted to be manifested through someone else, they would go to someone else.) I also knew that the idea comes to you at a time when it needs to be manifested to fill a need or answer a lack in society.
So without wasting one precious moment, the next morning I quit my job and spent the next several months studying the laws of success and prosperity expounded on by such icons as Napoleon Hill, Wallace Wattles, Florence Shin, and Catherine Ponder and in early 1982, I founded Yes to Success, Inc., a company dedicated to teaching principles of success, prosperity and manifestation. Within one year, my seminar was being taught in twelve major US cities and by the end of the third year, in seven countries internationally. And, as they say, the rest is history.
I share the story of my early journey with you because if you do a treasure hunt through its contents, you will find every basic principle you need to create success and prosperity in your own life. The application is, of course, up to you.
