GABRIEL MORRIS: I went on a warm clothing, shopping blitz the other day, as I'm going to Almora, which is a little further up into the mountains. |
Bought long underwear tops and bottoms, new boots, vest, hat and socks, plus I have a jacket I got a couple weeks ago, so I should be set for the colder evenings. Total cost for everything (including the jacket), about $40! India is definitely fun for shopping... Beautiful sunset on the Ganges River, Rishikesh India

While Travelling to Almora ~ Sunrise and falcons from a train in India
I'm now up in the Himalaya Mountains near the village of Almora, about a day's travel east of Rishikesh by train and bus. The elevation here is 5,000 feet or so, and is considered the foothills of the mountains. I'm staying in a fairly nice room (except for the lack of heat!!) for 100 rupees or $2. It's the exact same price as my much smaller room at the ashram back in Rishikesh. There are amazing views of the snow-capped Himalaya Mountains off in the distance. I'm not sure exactly how long I'll be here but I'm planning to take a bus ride that gets a little closer to the mountains, then I'm making my way back towards Rishikesh where I'll be participating in an 8-day yoga-meditation retreat which starts on Dec. 24th. So that where I'll be for both Christmas and New Year's Day. |
