Strumming Through the Veil

Article Pic

S.Lynne Horton: Inspired poetry and artwork

In the dark, deep beneath the earth's green surface,

Where it was cool and dark,

The place where life falls asleep,

Behind the black velvet curtain,

The skeleton picked up what had been forgotten.

In the quiet the bones took leave of their rest.

Upon the strands of wire gracing a hollow,

Under the light of the moon,

A hand with no skin,

Awoke and played again.

No one among the living who heard what dead souls could not,

Would ever know the details of the skin that wrote the tune,

It mattered not what colour could be perceived in the light,

Or change colour because of the warmth of the sun.

All that mattered under the veil between the earth and sky,

Was the wisdom that strummed of days gone by.

Those waking opened their shutters,

To let the light in,

To dance round the room,

What was silent now had sound.

Graceful melody not heard in the dark journeyed over to light of day.
