Heart's Drumbeat

Painting of Shamanic drum sticks

S.LYNNE HORTON: Inspirational Art & Poetry

Ancient worshipers of Hapi and Horus

Found within the heart all emotion

And from this fountain from which

Poured the soul's reprieve

Was discovered to be the key to

Wisdom in guiding one's path

Red and bright flowed honorable plight

While dark and thick where evil's albeit

So often in ancient scrolls

Though lost of modern science

Were found the secrets that truly

Led to a more glorious path

To follow the pulls on the strings of one's heart

Rather than the meandering of the mind

Whether the sandstorm blows and stings

Or the riverbanks swell and flood the plains

Whether the mountains of the north

Lay under a powder of white

When the valleys thirst for rain

Their hearts that led them remained forever the same

Either as true as the sun that shone and the moon that glowed

To honor and respect they were bound

Following always the pleadings of their heart

Onward toward the everlasting

That they could not see

But with faith built upon it's foundations every day

Love for what was promised never swayed

For it pulsed in their veins from that great beating

Drum that pounded in their chest

So much louder than just the dreams upon their beds.
