could bestow on the internet-using population (which is the majority of the world by now isn't it?) and I'd smile politely. Just wasn't my thing.
In the eight months that have flown by, I've been completely surprised by the number of people who've asked me if I knew anything about this supposed wonder APP, so I decided it was time for some research. I've searched online and asked Marlene for an interview and demo of the product. Here are the straight goods.
How the APP works
My Shopping Genie is a PC compatible search tool (Mac APP in development), which comes up with the best pricing of merchandise on the open internet highway. When you download it to your computer and type in a product name (the more specific the better), it accesses your favourite search engine (Google, Yahoo etc.) and does all the comparison-shopping research for you, by finding any website hosting product prices on the net - instantly. Using the 'the Genie' doesn't mean you have to buy
online. It's just a comparison tool
for online and retail sellers.
And the best part? It is completely FREE.
"The APP is
FREE," Marlene explained, "but don't confuse cost with value. We give away the APP for FREE but that's always a danger because people figure if it's FREE how valuable can it be?" Turns out the value to the shopper can be awesome!
Marlene said she wasn't typically an online shopper before she started using the Genie. "The personal example I use is, when I was looking for a steam cleaner for my tile floors, I found the one I wanted for $169 at a retail chain; in a regular online search it was $139 and I found it through the Genie for $58.79 tax and shipping included."
She also provided other examples of a friend saving over $200 on a laptop computer he'd been researching and another woman who purchased the skin and the car charger for her cell phone, which were shipped directly from Hong Kong for a little over $10 total. My Shopping Genie is the brainchild of MyNet Universe.
According to their website, they are "not affiliated wholly or in part with any search, shopping, auction or e-Commerce Web site." This great little APP is FREE forever and ever amen and there is NO obligation for anything else after you download and install it on your computer.
Looking at Marketing Online?
To make the APP even more interesting the MyNet Universe people offer other enticing uses. For those who see the value in online marketing, on the left side of the APP tool bar, you'll find a very handy promotion device. You can personalize and promote anything you like in this area, changing the message as often as you want so that every single time someone pulls up their internet browser they see your promo on the My Shopping Genie toolbar.
This area is reserved for anyone who purchases an APP distribution license. The license requires a one-time fee of $199 USD and $29 per month. (Cancellable at anytime.) When you consider the cost of advertising your business ANYWHERE, online or in print, this cost is a drop in the bucket and your name is top of mind to as many people as you distribute the FREE APP to. "A real estate agent for instance, is not someone you'd be using everyday, every year or even every five years, but they don't want you to forget them in between." says Marlene. "If their name is top of mind you are much more likely to recommend them to friends or family."
Looking for Extra Income?
The APP license also comes with 'per click' income - meaning depending on what gets clicked on you make a few cents each time. The amount of click income you make is directly dependent on the number of APPs people are using out there. "My Net Universe says each APP generates about 80 clicks per month and each site it clicks into pay at different rates, but the more APPs you give away to clients, friends and family, the more the clicks compound." Marlene continued. "It's a great way to make a few extra dollars or to do fund raising when you don't have the cash you'd like to share with your favourite charity. You can make money, while you promote yourself or your business. Give an APP away once and as long as someone is using it, you are getting paid." Sounds like a win - win to me!
And it's a Business Opportunity!
By using the same distribution license, the next Genie level is full out MLM (multi-level marketing). It's NOT required but if you are inclined, you can expand the opportunity and create a business by recruiting people to buy licenses and give away FREE APPs. The more people in your down line, the more money you make. "Fact is there are some license holders making thousands of dollars each month. These are clearly people who are focused on that side of the business." So, if MLM works for you, this sounds like a great product to build a business around. Marlene has been so successful that she makes her full-time living as My Shopping Genie distributor.
What most impressed me about MyNet Universe is that the company doesn't work against its franchisees. If you log onto MyShoppingGenie.com and try to download the APP directly from them, you can't! Their site tells you that you must get the APP from one of their licensed distributors. Very honourable in my opinion.
