Changing the World One Soul at a Time

Article Pic

DEVORAH GARLAND: The most valuable way I know to effect change in this world is to begin with me - by living in balance in every aspect of my life.

When I am in equilibrium spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically, I am in a very powerful and influential state of being. It brings a clarity that is a constant guide as I make choices or say words to another person that will continue the change I want to see.

It is a position of integrity, giving me discernment and a potent vigor that I can use in any way I wish on my quest to improve the world. The abundance of vitality and harmony which comes from being in balance positively affects all areas of my life. Including my quest to improve this unbalanced world.

Living in balance means restoring harmony between the feminine and masculine energies in your life. Too much feminine Yin energy can create weakness and frailty, whereas too much Masculine Yang energy can lead to violence and aggression. An antagonistic relationship between Yin and Yang energies will manifest as a self-destructive pattern within yourself and in your life.

So how do you build balance between these two energies? It begins with intuitive observation of how your day - and therefore your life - is going. Your life is a reflection of your intention; your everyday experiences are your forum for expressing this. If you don’t like what you have created, you can choose to rebalance that aspect of your life.

Open your mind, heart and spirit to the daily happenings which reflect the pattern you are expressing. Observe your emotions and behaviour. Note the situations in which your reactions either puzzle you or downright upset you. Ask yourself what it is that you are expressing in each stressful situation.

Is today filled with Yang-generated conflict as you strive to obtain what you desire? Your language may be full of combative words and your heart will not be at peace. Or are you Yin-centred and inclined to sacrifice yourself in favour of others? You may experience lasting depression, uncertainty about how to act, or hopelessness from not feeling valued or having your own needs nourished. These are just two ways in which an imbalance between Yin and Yang energies can be observed.

Feminine energy is expressed through the heart in feeling, listening, being, and most importantly through compromise. Masculine energy is expressed through the mind in thinking, speaking, exploring and doing. Balanced, they lead to a greater sense of harmony in your world and freedom to move along the spectrum of these two aspects according to your needs in the moment. You will be inclined to act when appropriate but you will also know when to consider your choices carefully before responding to a conflict in your life.

Physically, the feminine Yin helps you intuitively know what you need to eat, do and be in order to achieve lasting health and vitality. The masculine Yang allows you to search out the knowledge which will create vibrant health and well being in your life. Balanced, these two energies naturally guide you to create vibrant, abundant physical health. Together, they will keep you youthful throughout your lifetime.

Spiritually, by cultivating your knowledge of whatever path you are taking, you will be able to make powerfully appropriate, Yang-driven choices. Spending time in the Yin of simple and heart-based being, such as meditation, will give you a joyous expression of your chosen life path and intuitive understanding of when you are on the right track.
Emotional peace is the result of true Yin/Yang balance. Look upon all negative emotions such as depression, fear, anger, uncertainty and impatience as guideposts that can help you to know where the imbalance dwells. Your emotions can be brought into greater harmony through intuitive observation. Accept your feelings, but seek to rebalance your moods by exploring the opposing state whether it is Yin or Yang based.

Mentally, your knowledge can be both your greatest asset and liability. If you are always living in your head, it may feel much safer than being emotionally vulnerable, but it can deprive you of the joy that comes from simply being. Use your mental energy to guide your intuitive choices as you manifest your dream for this world. I’ve watched many friends follow spiritual leadings of various sorts, without pausing to think through the practical aspects of such guidance, and the result is always disappointing. Develop trust in your discernment - your ability to think something through and evaluate the probable outcome.

Extremes of Yin or Yang create instability rather than a gentle flow from one opposite to the other throughout the day. How you express these two aspects, which form a harmonious whole, is the key to activating the power within you and in everything surrounding you.

Choose to become a magnet that freely attracts what you need to achieve your vision for our planet. When your life is balanced, the results can be incredible. You can expect miracles as you strive to lead the change you want to see.
