A Metaphysical Toolbox for Rainy Day Self-Care

Article Pic

ANDREA THIEL CONNELL: It's a fact: life can be stressful, it can be difficult and it can be unfair. It can take you by surprise and leave you feeling stunned, shaken to the core and confused.

It is important that we learn to care for ourselves with a fundamental understanding of metaphysical tools that can be utilized effectively when we hit those hard times in life. When we learn those skills while we are well and mindful we are prepared with somewhere to turn in times of crisis. Learning to implement emergency tools as soon as possible will restore order and balance in our lives quickly.

The study and practice of metaphysics takes us into an understanding of our selves and our environment that is beyond the normal, conventional, dense, physical knowledge of our world. Since we live in a cause and effect reality that is constructed in dualism, we can trust that there is a primary root aspect to all manifestations of energy and once discovered they can be healed, released, or lovingly embraced.

Learning to navigate safely with knowledge and certainty can help us achieve well-being on subtler and subtler levels, correcting imbalances long before they reach devastating proportions. It is said that we never get more than we can handle but it helps to develop some tools that we can reach for quickly when we need to.

Tools for Everyday Living
Meditation & Breathing: The body requires deep peaceful rest to be able to restore itself on a daily basis. A regular daily routine of even just 10-15 minutes of uninterrupted deep breathing combined with quiet contemplation encourage the body to settle calmly with confidence in any situation, in any circumstance. Once body and mind are rested and calm the elusive answer to the problem may rise effortlessly to the surface to be discovered.

Intuition: We each have an instinctual intuitiveness that is hardwired into our nervous system; unfortunately most of us have not been encouraged to hone the skill of listening to it. With practice, patience and time however, we can learn to listen clearly without fear and anxiety clouding our judgment. As we develop our relationship with our intuition we increase our feeling of safety and trust in the world. We will find ourselves more and more being in the right place, doing the right thing, at the right time. Intuition and synchronicity go hand in hand. By taking the time to develop a strong intuition we naturally begin to avoid difficult and stressful situations.

Oracles: Develop a relationship with an oracle that is an extension of yourself to help you reveal your inner guide and teacher for those times when you can't seem to get past the noise in your life or the fears of your mind. We are empowered when we know that we have a sound, working, clear relationship with our innate intuitive abilities that will guide us faithfully. Working regularly with a pendulum or with a set of tarot cards for example, will allow you to access your own wisdom reliably when you need it most.

Energy Healing Techniques: Learn an energy healing modality like Reiki to have a useful technique in times of sudden acute physical, mental or emotional stress. The teachings and discipline of a hands-on technique will help you manage difficult situations effectively that may come up suddenly, helping you further achieve a stable, comfortable energy field. An effective energy healing modality will also help protect you from negative energy thought patterns and forms which are commonly present in a busy, over-crowded, over-stressed environment.

Aromatherapy: Science has proven the therapeutic effects fragrance has on our emotional and mental fields. Our sense of smell is acutely tuned to our memories, our emotions and our ability to feel calm and comfortable. Actively using essential oils to moderate our environment is a simple tool with a thousand convenient applications. Using essential oils to gently scent your office, car, or bath for example will work quickly to alter a mood, shift an emotion, ease a physical complaint, or help create a sense of profound connection to one's environment.

Journaling: The simple practice of journaling your thoughts, fears, realizations and inspirations will create a sense of continuity and progress in your life. Journaling life down on a page helps slow down our mind and personal timeline so that we may become more deeply aware of what is happening in the moment. For many people time feels like it is speeding up and passing too quickly. The documentation of your day will help you build a sense of appreciation and gratitude for your experiences and allow you a chance to truly find personal value and at the same time build-up self esteem. Often we aren't aware of our own negativity until we can hear ourselves or read it back from our journal pages. I once discovered my anger in a situation simply by the way my writing style changed while I was putting it down on paper. The words themselves didn't portray the message as clearly as the visual change did.
Journaling can help us learn to construct positive speech and thought patterns.

There are of course, many other tools and techniques we can learn to help us keep our 4 body system in check and in balance. Experiment, and investigate new techniques that don't require tons of time, accessories, or special places to do. Each of these suggestions practiced either alone or in combination will effectively help stimulate balance while developing and maintaining your personal well-being in all areas of your life. Most importantly we learn to have a powerful faith in ourselves as we skillfully manage to deal autonomously with all of life's changes.
