2011 and the Age of Aquarius

In every man there is a king. Speak to the king and the king will come forth. ~ Scandinavian Proverb

ANDREA THIEL CONNELL: The excitement of a New Year is upon us; fresh starts and clean slates. For most of us the new year brings us to an awareness of rising unlimited potential, with a deeply felt sense of bubbling anticipation we step forward boldly, making plans and setting goals for the year ahead.

By the 1st day of January we are already well into the second week of the growing light marked by Winter Solstice and have cast our eyes forward in the direction of the year ahead of us. We eagerly and gratefully shut the door on the path behind us and seek to forge out a new well-lit path ahead. This renewed cycle of expanding light stimulates us to embrace fresh beginnings, new growth and possibilities and we are enticed to dream the big dreams. For a small window of time we feel able to do anything we desire. This is important. It is necessary for human beings to feel the blessings of possibilities; it's what keeps our species moving forward.

It seems this year though that everyone is feeling an even greater sense of eager anticipation. The energy of 2011 is all about progress, achievement and advancement. This year we are entering a cycle of unprecedented possibility and potential. 2011 is the year of the King. A powerful masculine energy that is benevolent, magnanimous, and fruitful will preside over all endeavours. All efforts and energies focused in any specific direction will bear fruit. This is a year of great abundance. This will be a year of dreams come true for many, but take care to heed the warnings of sages; to be careful what you wish for. Everything will grow; be wary of your secret intentions.

2011 and the Age of Aquarius

There is on going dispute around the dates for the actual beginning of the Aquarian Age. We've been singing about it since the 60's and as we approach the year 2012 are set to wondering again if the 'end of times' are really just another way of saying the beginning of the new age.

Through the precession of the equinoxes we are leaving the Piscean Age and embarking on the Aquarian Age. Every age is approximately 2150 years in length and as the Earth moves through the sky it is governed by energetic influences of the constellations. Each age is marked with certain dynamics of teachings, complete with a new creation mythology, saviour, antagonist and learning path. Although it may be unclear when the Aquarian Age officially began, suffice to say that we are currently proceeding through the transition. It is after all not as cut and dried as a date on a calendar, it's a transition. Moving into the Aquarian Age is a journey that is taken by the planet as an entire organism yet it reflects our personal spiritual condition, our individual minds and belief systems, our emotional status and our physical realities. The influence of the Water Bearer will be felt by each of us as we become ready to embrace the next phase of growth in our own timing.

The Piscean Age was governed by the constellation of Pisces; 2 fish facing opposite directions, representing dualism and opposing powers. The Piscean Age brought us teachings to love one another through challenging lessons of dealing with external authority. In the Aquarian age we will learn of personal power, self esteem, self-love, self-actualization and self-realization. This is to be an age of unparalleled growth and knowledge and ultimately wisdom if we learn well. The Water Bearer teaches us of the unlimited flow of abundance, the merging of knowledge and ideas with others, of openness and willingness. All times of growth inherently involve struggle and chaos as we learn to let go one way of being for another. It isn't easy to go with the flow if your personal goal is to be in charge and dominant in opinion and control over others and yet it is equally difficult if we are constantly giving our own power over to others, disregarding our own hunches and ignoring our intuitions. These will be our lessons: self-dominion and personal esteem with infinite respect, consideration and kindness for others. Luckily we have approximately 2150 years in which to learn these lessons.

In 2011, combining the influences of the Aquarian Age with yearly influences we will be able to experience very specific opportunities for our growth. In 2010 we hopefully had experiences of personal nurturing and of nurturing others. We developed the great mother aspect within, listening to intuitions, caring for others, learning to care for ourselves with greater respect, paying attention to our health and well-being, becoming more sensitively attuned to our own personal requirements for happiness and joy. Now, in 2011, we move toward the next step of establishing ourselves as sovereign in our lives by making decisions that serve us well, creating opportunities that will actively begin to set a course toward our personal success in the direction of our dreams. This is a year for action, doing not dreaming, and taking our position of leadership when called to do so.

King for a Day

We all must learn how to lead when it is our time. It is false thinking that one person should or can have the power to lead all the time while others are destined to follow. In the Piscean Age we were strongly encouraged to defer to the power of others. Church and state ruled over us in an authoritarian relationship. Many, believing in this hierarchy of power never came to own any significant degree of personal power.

This year seize opportunities to step forward out of the shadows and determine to be 'King' when it is your turn. Under the Water Bearer's influence we will learn to honour the leadership qualities of one another, sharing our shifts at the helm, deferring to the better knowledge of others and owning it when we have it. Come to recognize the King aspect of others and with great humility see the reflection of your own great self that has the ability and wisdom to guide his own destiny. As King we will learn of power; its' glory and pitfalls, its' strength and its' weaknesses, and most significantly its ability to create and destroy opportunities.

2011 promises to be an exciting year full of opportunity and possibility. Idleness, procrastination and hesitancy will not be tolerated without creating feelings of great personal distress and despair. If you want to go for the ride you have to catch the boat and take your turn steering it. Sitting safely on shore will leave you feeling lonely, abandoned and depressed. Take advantage of the energies present this year to create your personal strength, confidence and self-esteem.
