A Place Called Stillness

Article Pic

JANICE CHRYSLER:
"There is a place within my soul
A sacred space I long to go
Where I unite with love sublime
Becoming one with the Divine."

Sit comfortably or even lay down. Now close your eyes and we will begin. Slowly, take a long, deep breath in through your nose. Hold for just a second or two. Allow the exhalation to be released very slowly, through your mouth. Do this again only this time be aware of your breathing, its gentle going in and out. Be especially aware of the split second between your inhalation and your exhalation for it is here that you will find your stillness. Aaah! The transformation begins.

Stillness you wonder? Can it be found in a simple breath? YES!! In fact, that is where you need to begin if you wish to find inner peace and a sense of calm in your life. The exercise above is the best place to start. Becoming aware of your breath; its effortless rhythm and flow. Really feel the coolness of the breath as it enters your body when you breathe in through your nose and its warmth as it crosses your lips when you exhale.

Then draw your awareness to that moment of 'stillness' found between the inhalation and exhalation of the breath. That moment when everything within you stands still, awaiting the change in the flow of internal energy. Intentionally breathe in positive energy and imagine you are breathing out any stress, worry, and negative energy along with toxins from your body. The stillness is the balancing point; that point between the positive and negative breaths. It is not an empty space to be ignored but a sacred space within us where we must go in order to connect to All That Is.

Energy is everywhere, always transforming, moving, healing and coming to new life. Before those transformations, a moment of stillness is needed to bring balance and peace along with clarity and focus. By ignoring our stillness, we create an unbalanced world internally and externally. After all, isn't balance what we strive for in our life? We need to unite with our stillness in order to feel the embrace of the Divine, obtain our sense of purpose and receive direction.

In this rush-around world many think the answers lie in a computer program, Ipod download or an instant text message, when all the time they hold the answer within themselves. Until they have difficulty breathing, most never take time to be aware of their breath never mind the 'spaces' between breaths. What a difference just taking a few minutes everyday and actually focusing on your breathing can make. Are you doing that now as you read this article? Can you feel the inhalation and exhalation of your breath? Are you able to draw your attention to your own stillness?

It is in this silent moment that oneness with the Divine is discovered. Once there, a profound sense of peace and love flows through your body: one that you can call upon at any time and return to by simply breathing.

In hypnosis and meditation it is good to begin with deep breathing exercises to relax the physical body but also to bring this closeness to Spirit. It is during this time that you learn to honour the sacredness of this union, long for it to fill every cell of your body and then acknowledge the peace and love that it brings.

Continue to practice soon you will become one with your breath and one with the Divine who is found in your inner stillness. What are you waiting for? Sit comfortably, close your eyes and breathe.
